Nursing Clinics and Investigations / Tests

These tests will have been requested by your doctor to help with the diagnosis or the monitoring of your condition.

Blood taking (Phlebotomy) Once your doctor has recommended you have a blood test, please book this with reception.

The blood test should only take 5 to 10 minutes.

Fasting blood tests sometimes your doctor will have asked for your blood tests to be ‘fasting’. Please let reception know this when booking the appointment. It is very important that you do not eat or drink anything other than plenty of water from 10pm the night before your blood test. Under 5 years? We are unable to provide a blood taking service for this age group. Your doctor will give you a blood form and you should arrange an appointment at QMC (0115 9249924) to have the tests. Housebound? For patients who are housebound, we can arrange a home visit provided by our own Nursing Team.

See below information about Results.

ECGs This is a recording of the electrical activity of your heart. Once this investigation has been requested by your doctor, please book an appointment with reception. The appointment will take up to 20 minutes. In some circumstances, you may be asked to wait after you have had your ECG whilst a doctor reviews the result.

Lung Function Tests (Spirometry) Once these have been requested by a member of our clinical team, these will be arranged by our Nursing Team.

Nursing Clinics Our Practice Nursing Team are fully trained to offer a wide range of services, including dressings, suture (stitch) removal, routine injections/immunisations. If you would like to book an appointment with the nurse, please speak to reception.

Results When your doctor asks you to book in for the tests, they will let you know what to do about getting the results. This will be in one of two ways:

You will have been asked to book a routine appointment with your doctor, either on the telephone or at the surgery, to discuss your results. Please allow at least one week for the results to come back.

You will not have been asked to book a routine appointment to discuss your results. Instead, one of our team will contact you if any action is needed once your doctor has reviewed your results. In this instance, if you do not hear anything, no further action is required. Please make sure we have an up-to-date contact number.

N.B. Our reception team are not trained to interpret the results of ANY investigation. Please do not ask them to do so. If you wish to discuss your results then please make an appointment with your doctor.
